Visit to the Uyuni Salt Flats from La Paz, rainy season
Which is the best month to visit Salar de Uyuni during the rainy season?
Historically, January and February are the months with the highest rainfall at Salar de Uyuni, marking the most intense period of the rainy season in the Bolivian Altiplano. January usually presents the greatest volume of rain and, therefore, also concentrates a higher risk of heavy rains, cloudiness, and restrictions or temporary closures of access to certain attractions of Salar de Uyuni. In December, as well as between March and April, the first and last rains of the season may occur, offering a particularly interesting experience: the possibility of discovering Salar de Uyuni both in its dry state and covered by a thin layer of water creating the famous mirror effect of Salar de Uyuni, depending on the conditions of each year. However, if your main interest is to contemplate and photograph Salar de Uyuni as the "Mirror of the Sky," fully covered with water, our recommendation is to travel in February, when historically there is a good balance between the presence of water on the surface of the salt flat and the chances of completing the tour. Keep in mind that the climate of the Altiplano is variable and that the presence of the "Mirror of the Sky" effect cannot be guaranteed for a specific date.
