The Death Road, Coroico and the Coffee Tour
About Coroico
Currently, one of the most visited tourist destinations in Bolivia is "The Death Road," also known as "The Most Dangerous Road in the World." It is a route that runs from "La Cumbre," a high mountain pass at 4,000 m a.s.l., down to subtropical towns at 300 m a.s.l.
This route was the main access way to the Yungas forest and has become legendary due to its extreme danger. Nowadays, it is a clear road almost exclusively consolidated as a tourist circuit for mountain biking descents.
Coroico is one of the municipalities with the strongest tourism tradition in the country. One of its main attractions is the Death Road, which descends from the summit of La Paz and, in a journey of approximately 3 to 4 hours, reaches the Yungas of La Paz. In Coroico, you can appreciate the change in scenery and landscape; the air becomes warmer, the vegetation transforms, and you find yourself immersed in nature, with a dazzling landscape and a warm climate.

Important data:
⛰️ The road connecting La Paz with Coroico, popularly known as the Death Road, descends continuously for about 67 km, going from an altitude of 3 650 m in the "La Cumbre" area down to 1 100 m in Coroico. The route is extremely narrow –in several sections barely 3 meters wide– and is flanked by rocky walls that drop up to 800 m above the abyss, making every kilometer a challenge of precision and courage.
🏞️ During the descent, the slope is constant and steep, with loose gravel and tight curves that require keeping the brakes at hand and maximum concentration.
