Two World Wonders: Machu Picchu and Salar de Uyuni

The route of great South American destinations begins in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire located at 3 400 m above sea level in southeastern Peru, famous for its colonial architecture and proximity to numerous archaeological sites. A few hours' travel away is Machu Picchu, the "lost city" citadel of the Incas, nestled on the Andean ridge at 2 430 m altitude and recognized as a World Heritage Site for its impressive integration of stone, landscape, and astronomy. Continuing toward the Altiplano, Lake Titicaca marks the border between Peru and Bolivia; with approximately 8 300 km² of surface area and an altitude of approximately 3 812 m, it is the highest navigable lake in the world and hosts communities living on floating totora islands. Finally, crossing the Bolivian border, the Salar de Uyuni dominates the southwestern part of the country with more than 10 500 km² of extension at 3 650 m altitude, becoming the largest salt flat on the planet and, during the rainy season, the largest natural mirror reflecting the sky and surrounding volcanoes. These landmarks bring together history, culture, and extreme landscapes that define the richness of the high‑Andean corridor.

➔ Witch Street

The tour begins toward the mystical heart of La Paz at Witch Street. This enclave, which covers Santa Cruz, Illampu, Linares, and Sagárnaga streets, is located just steps from the imposing Basilica of San Francisco and constitutes one of the most unique attractions of the "Marvel City." There, visitors find a vibrant mix of Andean craftsmanship—alpaca textiles, silver jewelry, and colorful skirts—and a wide range of ritual objects: amulets and talismans of pre‑Columbian origin, medicinal herbs, "tables for Pachamama," and perhaps most surprisingly, dried llama fetuses that locals sell to be buried under the foundations of new houses as an offering to Mother Earth to guarantee prosperity and protection. Additionally, the market houses curiosities such as dried toucan beaks and traditional brews, and allows travelers to converse with yatiris (healers) who explain the Aymara worldview and the importance of gratitude rituals to Pachamama. This tour not only provides a unique shopping experience but also introduces visitors to the deep spirituality and cultural syncretism that characterize daily life in La Paz.
