Excursion to the National Park, observation of Andean wildlife

About Sajama National Park

Located in the western Altiplano, about 250 km northwest of La Paz, Sajama National Park is Bolivia’s first protected park and one of the most spectacular destinations for nature lovers and Andean culture enthusiasts. With its high‑mountain landscapes, turquoise lagoons, steaming geysers, and a rich indigenous tradition, the park offers a unique experience that blends adventure, contemplation, and contact with local communities.

Sajama National Park is much more than a mountain destination; it is a space where wild nature and cultural richness intertwine, providing each visitor with a different story to tell.

Itinerary: Full‑Day Tour to Sajama National Park, from La Paz

Day 1

La Paz  Sajama La Paz

  • At 06:00 we pick you up from your hotel and begin the journey crossing the “Bolivian Altiplano.” Our destination is the department of Oruro, where Sajama National Park lies at an altitude of more than 4,200 m a.s.l., and where we will proudly observe up close the highest mountain in Bolivia: Nevado Sajama, whose summit reaches 6,542 m.
  • On our way to the park we will visit the Church of Curahuara de Carangas, called the “Sistine Chapel of the Altiplano” because of the beauty of the paintings in its rooms. The church is one of the oldest on the continent.
  • We will then arrive at Sajama National Park, first visiting Huayna Kota Lake where we can watch Andean flamingos before enjoying a soak in the hot springs.
  • In the afternoon we will take a hike through the queñua‑tree forest, an endemic subspecies of the area; this forest is the highest‑altitude woody formation in the world, and we will have the chance to see vicuñas, llamas and alpacas.
  • Return to La Paz and arrival at your hotel at approximately 21:00.

Optional: second day in Sajama Park
